The act or process of discovering, finding, or noticing something. The term is still in use today to describe a component that extracts a particular signal from all of the electromagnetic waves present. Detection is usually based on the frequency of the carrier signal, as in the familiar frequencies of radio broadcasting, but it may also involve filtering a faint signal from noise, as in radio astronomy, or reconstructing a hidden signal, as in steganography.
Hand Held Metal Detectors.
A metal detector is an electronic instrument which detects the presence of metal nearby. Metal detectors are useful for finding metal inclusions hidden within objects, or metal objects buried underground. They often consist of a handheld unit with a sensor probe which can be swept over the ground or other objects.
Walk Through Metal Detectors.
Walk through metal detectors is a structure, similar to a doorway, through which people pass; used for security screening at access points to detect concealed metal weapons on a person’s body. An alarm is sounded if the person is carrying a metal object, as this may indicate a weapon.
Mine Detectors.
It is an electromagnetic device for locating the position of hidden explosive mines these are sensitive enough to pick up most mines but which also yield about one thousand false positives for every mine. The process of removing or clearing land mines from an area is called Demining, while minesweeping describes the act of detecting mines.
Explosive Detectors.
Explosives trace detectors (ETD) are explosive detection equipment able to detect explosives of small magnitude. The detection is accomplished by sampling non-visible “trace” amounts of particulates. Devices similar to ETDs are also used to detect narcotics. The equipment is used mainly in airports and other vulnerable areas considered susceptible to acts of unlawful interference.
